In era where unemployment has reached new heights and the economy forgives no one, the youthful, Mr Bangwe Koosimile has decided to create employment for himself by turning used tyres into master pieces.
In his appreciation of life, he is quick to state that when life gives you lemons, turn them into lemonade to earn a better living.
Mr Koosimile said in an interview that youth unemployment was a challenge that affected many youth across the length and breadth of the country, but those who stood out and bring their ideas into life, always made it.
“Life has never presented a comfort zone to anyone, therefore young people must strive, never give up to make ends meet.”
Mr Koosimile said the idea of using old tyres was born a few years ago. As someone who was fascinated by art and design, the love propelled him to bring his ideas to fruition.
Therefore, he said the sight of old tyres lying round was not only an eyesore, but was equally an opportunity which drove him to research more on how to recycle them into useful masterpieces.
“It is not pleasant at all to stay home without work. I have found solace in designing chairs from old tyres, therefore contributing to the cause of reducing potential harm on the environment by engaging in a recycling initiative,” he said.
Mr Koosimile added that his shortcomings was that he had never sought funding to expand his business which he believed had the ability to create employment.
He said customers appreciate his creativity, therefore his tables and chairs made from discarded tyres find refuge in many households and businesses.
He said with the help of Kweneng District Council he had attended different shows in and outside the district, getting an opportunity to meet new customers, thereby expanding his business base.
“I am happy that so far. Whatever I design is loved by people,” he said.
He said the finishing touches to his products which included coating with an oil paint made the final products appeasing and hard to resist.
Mr Koosimile said his artistic works was not limited to designing furniture out of old tyres. His carpentry works were equally outstanding as he produces chairs of the quality that customers appreciate.
Koosimile’s artistic works goes beyond giving old tyres a new lease of life and carpentry works as he has added landscaping and moulding flower pots to his resume of artistic works.
However, Mr Koosimile said like any other business undertaking, his craft was not immune to challenges.
Amidst economic challenges, where unemployment was at its peak, Mr he said marketing his products remained a challenge.
Currently, he said social media was the primary platform where he marketed his products, even though acknowledging it was not enough to reach his diverse customer base.
Despite challenges, Mr Koosimile is adamant on expanding his business.
He was hoping to get funding to expand his business and continue with his contribution toward a clean environment.
“Every business has the ability to grow and develop into an empire, but one has to put their all in it to realise its potential to change the lives,” he said.
He said time has come for the youth to take their place in the business industry, stop idling and pursue their dreams.
Therefore, he encouraged his peers to wake up from slumber and think of the future they wanted.
He said young people had what it took to make it in life, and their abilities would only be turned into reality by focusing on some positives and applying their minds
Mr Koosimile said stepping forward and doing something was a positive move toward establishing a reputable business of his desire.
Even though hampered by lack of transport to move around collecting tyres and taking his products to potential markets, he appreciated the support that keeps him going.
He said lack of a workshop was a hindrance in expanding his business but remains hopeful as he sees light at the end of the tunnel. ENDS
