Katlo Masuga of Molepolole discovered his passion for comedy as early as Standard Six. By the time he reached Form One at Tshegetsang Junior Secondary School, he had already set his sights on drama, joining the group, Re Kgaola Re Petleka.

“There, I learnt a lot of things,” he recalled.

After completing his junior certificate, Katlo aged 18, collaborated with several well-known comedians, including Mawee, Maatla Ephraim Basha, Alex Zandra, Six Six, Major Bw, and Vetrenrosky.

His growing presence in the comedy scene even earned him interviews on Yarona FM and Lobatse Online Radio.

Masuga, known as Pablo Bw in the comic world, describes his style as observational comedy, rooted in everyday life.

“I gather common issues and transform them into comedy. My dream is to be a great comedian who tours around Botswana and South Africa,” he said.

Masuga has his sight set on collaborations with veteran comedians such as William Last KRM (Motsetserepa), Mjamaica, and Jujuvine, and an ambition to one-day feature on platforms such as Showmax or Netflix, representing Botswana at international comedy extravaganzas.

Beyond comedy, Masuga is also involved in video editing, brand promotion and graphic design.

He said comedy had given him identity, confidence and the power to speak out.

“People recognise me on the streets and shopping centres. It has boosted my confidence. Despite difficulties in producing content on time, comedy has helped me become organised and cooperative with other artists,” he explained.

To fellow artistes, he emphasised collaboration over competition. 

“Let us work together and do away with jealousy. Let us preserve Tswana culture and teach children our traditions,” he said.

Masuga considers comedy as more than entertainment but a tool for healing.

“Comedy can be used to mend torn hearts and provide psychological therapy to victims of Gender Based Violence,” he stated. ENDS
