Beauty Queen turns to Agripreneurship

Tonota District Council hosted the Queens Harvest Expo on Friday, celebrating the journey of Miss RADP 2023, Gosego Sego, from beauty queen to young agripreneur.
Ms Sego used her P70 000 pageant prize money to launch an integrated farming enterprise. She has since combined crop production, poultry farming, and drilled a borehole to support her agricultural activities.
Speakers at the colourful event praised Ms Sego for defying stereotypes that Basarwa were lazy and unable to fend for themselves.
Tonota District Council secretary, Ms Mogomotsi Seemule said Ms Sego had made the district proud.
She noted that beyond beauty, Ms Sego has brains and purpose, showing that dedication delivered results.
She described Ms Sego as a businessperson in her own right, serving as both manager and boss of her enterprise.
Ms Seemule added that Ms Sego did not put her crown before her business.
“When the crown comes off, she is quick to put on her farming clothes and get to work, driven by passion and the need to put food on the table,” she added.
Ms Seemule said Ms Sego has shown how to use prize money to its full potential. Unlike other beneficiaries who misused funding, Ms Sego proved that passion, dedication, and perseverance could bring results.
Tonota District Commissioner, Mr Keabetswe Lesiela challenged the council to hold similar expos for other beneficiaries of government programmes, giving them a platform to market and sell their products.
For her part, Ms Sego said the journey was not easy, but that dedication and passion had driven her success.
She stressed that nothing came easy in business and every Thebe counted. She revealed plans to digitise her project and confirmed she has opened
a business account to manage operations. ENDS
