Hosanna Gospel Singers shine at music awards

The 6th edition of the Gospel Music Awards, held over the weekend in Gaborone, delivered an unforgettable celebration of faith, music and rising talent, with Hosanna Gospel Singers emerging as the biggest winners of the night.
Known for their uplifting harmonies and soothing sound that resonates even in life’s stormiest moments, the youthful ensemble captivated the audience. Their electrifying presence earned them four major accolades of Best Music Video, Best Gospel Group, Best Album of the Year and the coveted Song of the Year.
Rising star Shirley Simo also enjoyed a breakthrough evening, walking away with both Best Newcomer and Best Female Artist. Her double win signals a promising future and cements her place among the genre’s most exciting voices.
Behind the scenes, Botsoma Botsoma was recognised for his creative excellence, taking home the award for Best Producer. His work continues to shape the evolving sound of gospel music. Lucky Sephiri earned recognition in the Artist Living with Disability category, ultimately walking away with the title.
On the international front, Thapelo Tsotetsi was honoured with the Best International Gospel Artist award, highlighting the cross-border influence of gospel music as he competed against other South African and Lesotho gospel artists.
Veteran gospel artist Matheke Leteane claimed the Best Male Artist award. In his acceptance speech, he reflected on the growth of gospel music over the past 25 years, acknowledging pioneers who laid the foundation for today’s scene and encouraging young artists to carry the torch forward.
The evening was further elevated by a performance from South African gospel star Joey Mofoleng of Spirit of Praise. His medley, featuring beloved songs like Mananjalo Nkosi and Ngiso Iyeza Ithando Yakho, had gospel enthusiasts on their feet, singing and dancing in unison.
ABed Live received the Innovators Award, recognising his contribution to pushing creative boundaries within the gospel music space.
Gospel legend Isaac Maleyi was honoured with the Best Legendary Artist award, acknowledging his enduring contribution to the industry. The awards were held under the theme : A Sound That Transforms. Event organiser Joel Keitumele explained that the theme was inspired by the search for a tune, sound, and rhythm capable of bringing healing and deliverance. He also said the awards embraced all gospel music genres, including hip-hop, rumba-style gospel, motswako gospel, and Zion music, uniting them under one platform.
The ceremony not only celebrated excellence but also showcased the unity and spiritual power of gospel music, leaving attendees inspired and hopeful. ENDS
