Council motivates students
23 Feb 2014
Orphans and other vulnerable children have been encouraged to take their education seriously to determine their future.
Tonota Sub council community development and social services chairperson, Mr Gaefele Sedombo said this during a career fair held in Francistown on Saturday, February 22. Mr Sedombo urged them to work hard and push themselves beyond their capabilities so that they could change their families’ social status.
Examination results for orphaned children and other vulnerable children were not impressive as compared to the majority of other students despite the much support they receive from the government, he said.
He challenged them to change the saddening poor results and advised them to take advantage of career fairs as they could provide opportunities for them.
Giving the objectives of the fair, social welfare officer Mr Moses Rakodi said often children under their care are not exposed to much information regarding careers which they can pursue hence they decided to bring services closer to their clients so that they could make informed choices on choosing careers.
The event was also aimed at encouraging the children to work hard at school because without proper education and understanding of programmes, it becomes difficult for one to choose and work on projects without them failing. The fair attracted form four and five students from Mater Spei College and Shashe River School. Ends
