Budget constraints limit projects
23 Feb 2014
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says due to competing priorities and budgetary limitations, it has not been possible to undertake adequate rehabilitation of existing storm water drainage in Phase IV, Extension 19, Block 9, Extension 26 and Morula Ward in Gaborone.
She told Parliament that consideration will be given to the design of a comprehensive storm water management system, along with other equally competing needs which will also fully address the waterlogging and flooding in the areas alluded to in NDP 11.
She was responding to a questions asked by Gaborone West South MP, Botsalo Ntuane, who had asked about rehabilitation of areas of North West of Gandukuni Road in Phase 4 up to Rainbow School circle, as this will help prevent water logging that occurs during rainy season.
He had also asked about the rehabilitation of land surrounded by Ngware, Nkange, Marokolwane, Sankuto, Polokwe and Phakwe roads. Mr Ntuane also asked the minister about the water drainage trenches along the Western Bypass road whose non-existence currently causes floods at Morula Ward. ENDS
