Two goals in the first half by Emmanuel Timu against Black Lions on Saturday at Royal Aria stadium in Tlokweng secured three valuable points for struggling TAFIC in the FNB Premier League.
The match ended with a 2-1 score line as Black Lions secured a consolation goal through substitute, Kevin Bulala in the 62nd minute.
Exploiting two defensive lapses and forcing errors, Timu converted a penalty in the 32nd minute and doubled the lead with a clinical header in the 44th, silencing the home crowd.
The two teams, currently placed inches above the relegation zone and finding for survival came into the match separated by three points with Black Lions sitting on position 12 with 21 points while TAFIC follows closely with 18 points on position 13.
After the game the two teams, even though equal on 21 points, swapped positions as TAFIC has conceded less goals. The match was a tactical battle, as both teams are fighting to elude relegation.
Frustrated by the result, Coach Srdan Zivojnov of Black Lions declined a post-match interview, while on other hand Thatayaone Sonny of TAFIC was in a joyful mood, as he celebrated the win with his team.
“This is a big win for us, especially after last weekend’s loss. We played well in the first half, got our goals, and resisted their pressure in the second. We are happy with the three points,” said Sonny.
Sonny emphasised that the team’s mission remains survival.
“We are on the right track. A few games remain, and we will fight until the end,” he said.
