Government targets equitable housing distribution countrywide

10 Mar 2026

Government continues to engage with potential investors to promote balanced development across all identified areas and to ensure equitable distribution of Bonno housing opportunities nationwide.

Assistant Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Motsamai Motsamai told Parliament on Monday that the primary reason for the imbalance in distribution was that investors tended to show preference for certain locations over others largely influenced by factors such as proximity to established infrastructure, market demand, access to services, anticipated return on investment and overall commercial viability.

Mr Motsamai said Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) had been allocated 10.9 hectares in Kazungula with 212 housing units all under construction. He said the total number of housing units earmarked for development in the area was 1,427 made up of 712 plots in Kazungula, 355 in Kachikau, 255 in Kavimba and 105 plots in Satau.

He noted that not all land secured for the programme had been allocated to investors but only Kazungula had been fully allocated while the remaining areas were still available for investment.

He was responding to a question from Chobe MP, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga who had asked the minister to state the size of land in hectares government had secured in Chobe for Bonno project and the number of houses earmarked to be built in the same space. Mr Mapulanga had also asked the minister to state the names of villages where land had been secured. BOPA
