Red Cross donates brick moulding machine to Sorilatholo

Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS) has donated a brick moulding machine along with startup raw materials to the Sorilatholo community, as part of its initiative to foster resilient communities.

The project, funded by the Netherlands Red Cross, falls under the community-based disaster risk management initiative, aimed at building resilience against natural disasters.Botswana Red Cross Society, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kutlwano Mukokomani, said the project would contribute to resilience, job creation, and skills development.

“We are dedicated to creating resilient communities, particularly against natural disasters,” he said.

The beneficiaries have received training in financial management to ensure the project's sustainability. Red Cross Disaster Management Officer, Mr Mompoloki Nawa, described the project as a community resilience-building effort that would help protect against natural disasters like floods. He said the community would be able to build durable shelters, stimulate economic activity, and improve the villages appearance. 

The project will also offer opportunities for community members to learn new skills. Chairperson of the brick moulding project committee, Ms Setakadinao Senatla, said the donation would impact positively on the lives of the community. 

Botswana Red Cross has also donated five tents to the community.  Kgosi Olebetse Phemelo of Sorilatholo expressed confidence that the project would generate employment opportunities, while Area Councillor, Mr Emmanuel Monoko, urged government departments and leaders to fully back the project to prevent its failure. BOPA
