Jwaneng chief education officer Mr David Rabana recently applauded special needs students at Dinonyane Primary School for their excellent academic performance.
Mr Rabana said the students’ academic performance improves every year despite the challenges that they have to deal with in their studies.
“The special needs unit at Dinonyane Primary School started operating in 2003 with only one classroom. Currently the school has 14 special needs students, comprising of seven boys and seven girls,” he said. He revealed that the learners are taught by two qualified special education teachers who are both majors in intellectual disability. Mr Rabana said the 2013 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results show that Dinonyane Primary School was in third position after Teemane and Jwana Primary Schools.
However, the school recorded a 7.81 percent increase from the previous year, followed by Teemane with 2.11 percent. Jwana and Kgalagadi Primary Schools recorded a decline of 12.05 percent and 14.30 percent respectively. He explained that as a way of ensuring that the good results are maintained, the Ministry of Education continues to conduct in-service training exercises to equip teachers with the necessary skills.
Mr Rabana said upon completion some learners are integrated into the main stream up to junior secondary school level while others are taken to Legodimo Trust and Rankoromane School in Otse. ENDS
