20 Feb 2014

A middle aged man died on Monday afternoon along the Ghanzi/Maun Road after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned.

Ghanzi police station commander, Christopher Molobe said the accident occurred between Ghanzi and D’kar. He said the deceased was among five other government employees who were travelling in an Isuzu double cab on official duty when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned.

He said two of the victims were hospitalised at Ghanzi Primary Hospital; the other two were released after being treated for minor injuries while the other one was flown to Princess Marina Referral Hospital the same day.

Mr Molobe said investigations on what could have caused the accident were still on-going, and the names of the victims had not been released as their relatives had to be notified first.

In another incident, a 16-year-old boy of Tsootsha, who was doing Form 2 at Tshimologo Junior Secondary School, drowned in a water pond on Sunday.

According to Assistant Superintendent Oarabile Dema of Tshootsha, they rushed to the scene after receiving a call at around three o’clock in the afternoon from someone who was walking by the pond.

“With the help of the public we managed to retrieve the victim, but he was certified dead on arrival at the hospital,” he said. Assistant Superintendent Dema urged parents to warn their children about the dangers of drowning especially after the heavy rains that filled all the ponds around Tshootsha. Ends
