WASBO Launches Athletes - Centred Strategy
23 Feb 2026
Women and Sport Botswana (WASBO) has launched its 2025-2029 strategy, placing athletes at the centre of its programmes to ensure their voices, wellbeing and aspirations guide all initiatives.
Speaking at the launch, WASBO chairperson Keenese Katisenge-Tizhani said the strategy was shaped by bold aspirations, collaboration and the firm belief that the future of sport was inclusive, innovative and equitable.
“At this pivotal moment, WASBO is embracing digital transformation to connect, empower and elevate women and girls in sport like never before,” she said.
Katisenge-Tizhani added that the organisation was committed to unlocking new opportunities through strategic partnerships with federations, commissions, ministries, Olympic bodies, communities, sponsors and international networks.
“Together, we seek to build strong policy foundations, advocate for gender equity and champion progressive practices across all levels of sport in Botswana,” she said.
She noted that women’s leadership remained the driving force of the movement, with the organisation aiming not only to increase participation but also to amplify the influence of women as coaches, officials, administrators and decision-makers.
She said they wanted women empowered to shape the sporting agenda from grassroots to the highest echelons. Katisenge-Tizhani further said the strategy promoted continuous performance assessment and data-driven decision-making, enabling WASBO to respond faster, deliver targeted support and measure impact more effectively.
She emphasised that the organisation remained steadfast in its mandate to create safe and inclusive spaces for all and to ensure growth reached every district, sporting code and community. The chairperson said the strategy reflected input from members and partners across the country, capturing the realities, ambitions and diverse strengths of women and girls nationwide.
“As we embark on this journey, I invite every stakeholder to work with us in making sport a powerful engine for equity, opportunity and national pride. Together, we are shaping not just the future of sport, but the legacy of inclusion, leadership and excellence,” she said. BOPA
