Gakuto-Kopong-Bokaa under routine maintenance
19 Feb 2026
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Noah Salakae, has informed Parliament that the Gakuto-Kopong-Bokaa Road remains a gravel road under the ministry’s care and continues to receive routine maintenance.
Mr Salakae was responding to a parliamentary question posed by Lentsweletau/Lephephe MP, Mr Tshenolo Bogatsu, on Wednesday.
The minister explained that the Gakuto-Kopong-Bokaa Road was maintained through quarterly dry grading to ensure that it remained accessible to motorists.
He noted that the most recent grading works were carried out between December 2025 and January this year.
However, Mr Salakae clarified that the Kopong-Gaborone North road did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, but was instead the responsibility of the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs.
Mr Bogatsu had sought an update on the status of the Gakuto-Kopong-Bokaa Road and the Kopong-Gaborone North road.
He had also wanted to know how the two roads would be maintained to ensure that they remained navigable, particularly given that they were not catered for under National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).
The minister’s response comes amid ongoing concerns from residents in the Lentsweletau/Lephephe constituency over the condition of road infrastructure and its impact on daily travel, especially during adverse weather conditions. ENDS
