Minister will not divulge information

20 Feb 2014

Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi says she cannot avail qualifications held by two members of the University of Botswana (UB) Council whom she appointed.

Answering a question in Parliament from MP for Gaborone Central, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, Dr Venson-Moitoi said it was not in her line of duty to avail qualifications of members she appointed using her discretion.

She said she used her discretion to select members of the community amongst them business people, adding that she appointed a representative from Cash Bazaar. She said she also considered parents who sent their children to the university as well as volunteers who guided delinquent children.

Dr Venson-Moitoi said, therefore, she did not consider it necessary to avail qualifications of two members of the university council whose qualifications were unknown at the time of responding to question 818 of July 30, 2013.

Mr Saleshando had asked the minister if she had been able to establish the qualifications held by two members of the UB council whose qualifications were unknown at the time of responding to Question No. 818 of July 30 2013.

He further wanted the minister to state whether it was true that some council members were business partners or worked for the same company and held the same qualifications. ENDS
