Gaborone West police station maintenance on cards
20 Feb 2014
Minister of Defense, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse sayshe is aware that Gaborone West police station is in an unacceptable state of repair.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Seretse said his ministry was recently authorised to undertake all its maintenance directly and would only look to the Department of Electrical and Building Engineering Services (DBES) for infrastructure development.
He said his ministry was re-prioritising its maintenance schedule of all police installation and should start the maintenance schedule in the next financial year. He further said his ministry had ordered about 350 vehicles for this financial year and Gaborone West police station would be a beneficiary of this fleet.
Mr Seretse was responding to a question asked by Gaborone West South MP, Mr Botsalo Ntuane who had asked the minister if he was aware that Gaborone West police station buildings were dilapidated and in state of disrepair.
He asked as to when the building would be repaired in order to ensure that the officers and staff work in conducive and safe environment.
He also wanted to know whether the minister will consider providing the station with more vehicles and other modes of transport to enable the officers and staff to effectively perform their function. ENDS
