Jwaneng club donates

20 Feb 2014

Jwaneng Cycling Club (JCC) recently donated  P40 000 to Kgosi Bathoen II Memorial Museum in Kanye.

When handing over the donation JCC chairperson, Keamogetse Nkane said the funds were generated from a cycling event that was held in Jwaneng last year. He added that the club was assisted by other companies to raise funds, among them Komatsu, Puma Energy, Jwaneng Mine and Majwe Mining.

“We have also sponsored a website for the museum which is already in use,” he said. When giving a brief history of the museum, board chairperson Toro Mosimakoko said the founder, Kgosi Bathoen II, was a man who liked to collect discarded items like used utensils, tools, clothes and farming equipment.

He explained that Kgosi Bathoen II’s collection grew until there was need to store the items in a bigger place. “That is how this museum was founded. At first we had to move from one place to another until we were allocated the old District Commissioner’s offices,” he said.

During a tour of the museum, Acting Curator Onkgopotse Pule said they need funds to refurbish the old buildings because government is only responsible for paying staff salaries. For his part, Kgosi Malope II appreciated the gesture. Ends
