19 Feb 2014

The Ghanzi Primary Hospital recently conducted a corruption prevention workshop, whose aim was to educate and encourage health workers to refrain from corruption in the workplace.

When addressing the participants, the matron of Ghanzi hospital, Mrs Martha Ditlhobolo said corruption prevention committees could help manage corruption at ministerial or department level.

She also explained that the committees drove anti-corruption functions on behalf of management as well as restoring and sustaining transparency and accountability in the public service.

Therefore, she said their responsibility as committees was to conduct awareness programmes to sensitise staff and solicit support, keep constant check on organisational operations and procedures and ensure that there were no opportunities for corruption.

She also said committees were to monitor organisational procedures to guard against corruption or other deviant conduct. Mr Samuel Kolane from the ministry of health applauded Ghanzi Health Management Team on their efforts to address and sensitise staff on issues relating to corruption.

Mr Kolane encouraged staff and also outlined the rule of receiving gifts and bribes. He cautioned staff to be able to differentiate between the two in order to make informed decisions. The workshop was attended by different representatives from clinics around Ghanzi and the settlements. Ends
