Software engineering company, Cavista Holdings Botswana, is preparing to host its first ever two day Cavista Hackathon Botswana beginning February 21, at the Botswana Accountancy College in Gaborone.
Speaking at a media briefing Thursday in Gaborone, Cavista general manager, Ms Katlego Arnone, said the coding marathon would bring together 300 delegates including undergraduate students from universities that offered technology courses.
She said that winners would be separated into three categories of main winners who would get significant prizes of a monetary value yet to be announced, but also include the opportunity to launch their coding solutions in the market.
“It is a very good opportunity, not only for Cavista to find the best and the brightest talent to come and join our team, but to also have those with capital, to invest in the young engineers’ ideas,” said Ms Arnone.
She highlighted that the hackathon was also an opportunity for the tech giant to make impact by contributing to the reduction of unemployment in Botswana.
“The Hackathon alone will ensure employment creation through the downstream of entrepreneurs that will form out of that event,” she said.
Cavista engineering manager, Mr Tumisang Solomon, said the company was on a daily search for the best and the brightest in Botswana, noting that their current headcount stood at 35 and were hoping to have at least 500 in five years. ENDS
