The Francistown derby ended in a stalemate as Calendar Stars and TAFIC FC played to a goalless draw in an FNB Premiership match at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium on January 17.

The tightly contested encounter started cautiously, with TAFIC enjoying the lion’s share of possession while Calendar Stars remained compact in defence. Both teams created scoring opportunities, but poor finishing and alert goalkeeping kept the scoreline blank.

Calendar Stars were awarded a penalty around the 25th minute after a foul in the box, but Mogomotsi Madome’s spot kick was saved by the TAFIC goalkeeper. The first half ended 0–0.

TAFIC intensified pressure in the second half, launching a series of attacks, but Calendar Stars’ defence held firm to deny any breakthrough. The match eventually ended goalless.

In a post match interview, Calendar Stars coach Joseph Mokgacha expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, saying the players executed the tactical plan effectively.

“ We applied ourselves the way we actually planned for this game, TAFIC had most of the goals but our defender did very well, we put in three middle fielders so that we don’t open much. We managed to deal with that, we missed a penaity and thats part of the game,” said coach Mokgacha.

TAFIC coach Thatayaone Sonny praised his players for earning a point, noting that the derby was always going to be challenging, especially after the festive season break.

“We will take the point and prepare for the next game. We were slow off the blocks and could have done better. We created chances but failed to convert,” he said.

Following the draw, Calendar Stars moved to 10 points, while TAFIC FC now sit on 11 points. ENDS
