Jwaneng Galaxy produced a dominant performance to defeat Township Rollers 2–0 in a tense FNB Premiership encounter played before an electric crowd.
The atmosphere at the stadium was vibrant, with a large turnout of fans cheering, hooting horns and ringing bells throughout the match.
Galaxy opened the scoring in the 38th minute through Kgotso Radithongwa, a goal that further energised the hosts as they pushed relentlessly for a second breakthrough.
Township Rollers created chances of their own in the first half, with Thapelo Balatlheng forcing an effort into the side netting. Radithongwa also missed an opportunity for Galaxy when his attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Galaxy dominated possession for much of the half, repeatedly threatening the Rollers’ goal. Thabang Sesinyi sent a shot over the bar, while Radithongwa’s second attempt was well saved by the Rollers’ goalkeeper.
Rollers came close from a corner kick taken by Balatlheng, but the chance failed to materialise into a goal. Two minutes of stoppage time were added before Galaxy managed the clock effectively to go into halftime with a 1–0 lead.
In the second half, Rollers intensified their efforts in search of an equaliser. Balatlheng again missed a scoring opportunity after sending the ball over the crossbar. Another corner kick opportunity was thwarted by Galaxy defender Moagi Sechele, who denied Rollers a clear chance on goal.
As pressure mounted, Rollers coach Oarabile Seabo substituted Kago Monyake with Lemogang Maswena in an attempt to change the tempo of the match.
Galaxy sealed the win in the 71st minute when Tebogo Kopelang scored a brilliant second goal. Following the goal, Galaxy made a double substitution, bringing on Omaatla Kebatho for Thabang Sesinyi and Tshepo Kesebale for Kgotso Radithongwa.
Township Rollers also made changes, substituting Kago Sesinyi with Tlotlo Kgaolo as the match became increasingly physical and intense, with both teams making multiple substitutions.
Balatlheng continued to fight for Rollers and delivered a determined performance, though he was unfortunate to sustain an injury after attempting to challenge goalkeeper Goitse Phoko, who had already secured the ball inside the 18-yard box.
Speaking after the match, Rollers coach Oarabile Seabo said he was satisfied with his team’s performance, noting that they had only three days to prepare for the game.
Seabo said they could only hope for the best in the next game.
Jwaneng Galaxy coach Sean Connor described the encounter as tough but praised his side for converting their chances.
He had good ball possession, which helped us turn our opportunities into goals,” he said.
Galaxy midfielder Gift Moyo was named Man of the Match and walked away with a P1,000 voucher. ENDS
