Zebras Suffer Second defeat

27 Dec 2025

Botswana suffered its second defeat of the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON), going down 1-0 against Benin in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday.

In their opening match on Tuesday, the Zebras were outclassed 3-0 by Senegal, and some football commentators expected them to redeem their pride against Benin.

However, that was not the case as a 27th minute strike by Yohan Roche gave the Cheetahs their first ever victory at the AFCON finals.

Despite the defeate, Zebras head coach Morena Ramoreboli saw a lot of improvement from his charges compared to the opening match.

Ramoreboli said they were more comfortable on the ball. He said they played well in the first half, but the unfortunate part was that they did not use the opportunities that they created.

“We could have even scored, and the sad part about this game is that we had a better chance of scoring and dominating,” he said.

Ramoreboli said the Zebras lacked penetration in the second half, but they kept the ball and at the same time defended with a high line, which he said they executed well.

The Zebras is now left with one game in the Group D, against DR Congo to be played at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday. ENDS
