Sehithwa police are investigating an incident in which three people lost their lives in a road accident on Sunday.

Sehithwa Police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Bathuseng Lesotho confirmed the incident saying three people died on the spot after the Toyota Runx they were in collided with a Hilux, some 12km away from Tsau. The deceased, he said were two females aged 45 and 51, all from Gumare while the driver aged 44 originated from Masunga.

He said the Runx had six occupants including a five-year-old, who together with two others sustained injuries and were admitted at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital while occupants of the Hilux survived with minor injuries.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident and I appeal to road users to drive with care, obey road signs and not to drink and drive,” said Assistant Superintendent Lesotho.

He said in another accident still on Sunday, two people sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree. Investigations, he said were on going to determine the cause.

In Gumare, station commander, Superintendent Chenamo Orateng encouraged the residents to celebrate their festive season responsibly. He further urged drivers to obey road signs.

Also, he said it was common for incidents of gender-based violence to spike during the festive season and as such, he pleaded with all to seek help from relevant authorities when faced with emotional challenges. BOPA
