12 Dec 2025
An 11-month-old baby was fatally struck by a reversing vehicle in Disaneng on Tuesday.
In an interview, Maun Station Commander, Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, confirmed the tragic accident, explaining that a 44-year-old man accidentally reversed over the toddler while leaving a friend’s yard.
The driver told police that he did not see the child behind his vehicle and immediately rushed the baby to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where the infant died while receiving medical care.
The child’s mother said the baby had been inside the house and must have crawled out unnoticed.
Supt. Lepodise confirmed that investigations were ongoing to establish the full details of the incident.
In a separate incident, Supt. Lepodise said they were also investigating a suspected suicide discovered the same day near Sedie Ward.
He said a 37-year-old man and others collecting firewood came across a person hanging from a tree in the bush.
He said the man was transported to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where he was certified dead. The deceased was identified as a 27-year-old man from Sedie Ward.
Police are conducting further inquiries to determine the circumstances of the suspected suicide, according to Supt. Lepodise. ENDS
