09 Dec 2025

Residents of Paje have been informed that the National Health Insurance (NHI) will alleviate financial hardships associated with accessing healthcare services.

Addressing a consultative kgotla meeting on Monday in Paje, a team of experts from public health unit in the Ministry of Health said NHI require citizens to have health coverage, often through mandatory contributions to cover for medical costs and strengthen health system.

Dr Keatlaretse Siamisang indicated that the NHI scheme would be designed to ensure that every Motswana regardless of income or background has equal access to quality, affordable and timely health care.

Dr Siamisang stated that insurance act as a vital shield against unforeseen circumstances as it protects people from unplanned expenses and offers a financial cushion from accidents, illnesses and more other health challenges. He said the scheme was to ensure citizens were able to use the closest NHI accredited facility and all health services providers within their reach.

In their response, the residents  noted that for NHI to thrive, it will be in order for government to first focus on improving service at all public health centres and do away with queues and unprecedented long waiting hours for one to access health services. ENDS
