The drafting instructions for a new act that will regulate all health professionals including nurses has been finalised and submitted to the Attorney General Chambers in December, 2013.

The Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing said when responding to a question in Parliament from the MP for Gaborone South, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi. Dr Seakgosing said the ministry was not in a position to respond to the issue concerning Botswana Nurses Union’s (BONU) involvement in the process of the draft policy because the matter was before the court.

Mr Molatlhegi had asked the minister to state the progress made in merging the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana and Botswana Health Professions Council.

Gaborone South legislator also wanted to know whether BONU was involved in all the process of the Draft Policy and whether BONU submitted a position paper to the Ministry of Health and how it was addressed. ENDS
