Motshegwa clarifies medical supplies distribution
03 Dec 2025
The Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, is not aware nor has received any reports of transportation of medical supplies by nurses’ private vehicles in small villages and remote clinics.
Mr Ketlhalefele Motshegwa explained to Parliament recently that Boteti West Constituency had three delivery points of drugs and medical supplies from the Central Medical Stores (CMS), which also served as distribution points for their respective clusters and all the facilities within clusters order their drugs and supplies from their delivery points.
However, he said facilities occasionally request from one another as a way of rationalisng distribution.
Mr Motshegwa explained that Inter-facility transportation of medical supplies, was done using government vehicles and if there were any such cases, it would be contrary to the existing government procedures whereby all medical supplies and drugs should be transported in safe and secure official vehicles.
The ministry takes highly the welfare of officers and therefore, endeavours to ensure that all officers perform duties within the boundaries of their line of duty as stipulated in the Job Effectiveness Description, Minister Motshegwa said.
Boteti West MP, Mr Sam Digwa had asked the minister if he was aware that nurses in some small villages and remote village clinics were using their private vehicles to collect medical supplies from larger nearby medical facilities and whether that was procedural. ENDS
