Quartet appear for possession of cannabis

Four men appeared at Lobatse Magistrate Court on Thursday for unlawful possession of 79.1 kilograms of cannabis.
The four, Nkosinathi Ncube, 43, Tinashe Musinahama ,33, Aleck Katumbi, 40, and Lazarus Ncube, 40, appeared before Senior Magistrate Mr Tshoganetso Atamelang to answer for the offense of unlawful possession of dagga contrary to section 4 subsection 1(b) as read with section 4 subsection 4 of the Illicit Trafficking and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The accused persons were nabbed by the police on October 26 along the Trans Kalahari road near Meru fuel station in Lobatse in possession of seven black plastic bags containing cannabis weighing 79.1 kg.
They all pleaded not guilty to the offense.
Second accused Musinahama, a Zimbabwean national, was also charged with overstay for remaining in Botswana since 2022, while third accused, Katumbi, also a non-Botswana citizen, was also charged with overstay in Botswana since April 2020, the charges which they both pleaded guilty to.
Additionally, the fourth accused, Lazarus Ncube faced a charge of entering Botswana through un-gazetted point which he pleaded guilty to.
The quartet will appear in court again on 10 December 2025 for facts presentation. ENDS
