Kokome receives house under Bonno housing programme

Tears of joy, wide smiles, and thunderous applause filled the crisp afternoon air in Pitseng recently as Ms Ntebogang Kokome was handed the keys to her brand- new home, the very first such house completed under the Bonno National Housing Programme in Moshupa district.
Surrounded by proud local government top brass, the emotional beneficiary could barely contain her excitement as she stepped over the threshold of the modern two-and-a-half-house built at a cost of P245, 613.33.
Presiding over the colourful ceremony, Councilor Moitshepi Tsalaile, who is the Chairperson of the SHHA Committee that oversees the Bonno Housing Scheme, described the moment as ‘a dream come true for both the beneficiary and the community.’
Senior Quality Assurance Officer at BHC, Mr Ketsile Kgosietsile, explained how the project overcame significant hurdles to finish on schedule.
Construction began in July, and despite severe water shortages that forced the team to truck in water and a treacherous gravel road that made transporting materials a daily battle, the house was completed this month.
“What you see here is the result of true teamwork between BHC, the Council, the contractor, and the beneficiary herself. We refused to let challenges compromise quality. This is a home that Pitseng will be proud of for generations,” Mr Kgosietsile told the cheering crowd.
When the moment finally arrived for Ms Kokome to get her keys, she was lost for words, wiping away tears as neighbors and dignitaries clapped and cheered.
“I am so happy… words cannot explain. This Christmas, my family and I will celebrate in our own beautiful home for the first time ever. God is good,” she said, beaming with joy.
Area Councillor Mr Mathaese Ralekoi used his vote of thanks to remind residents that the day’s celebration was just the beginning.
“This house is living proof of real development reaching our village. Pitseng has made history by receiving the first Bonno Housing Scheme house in the whole district. I urge every eligible resident to visit council offices, find out how the program me works and grab this life-changing opportunity with both hands.”
As the sun set over the newly built house and the neighbours lingered to congratulate the new homeowner, one message rang clear in Pitseng; the dream of affordable, dignified housing is no longer a promise; it is a reality. ENDS
