A by-election for Moreomaoto ward in the Boteti West constituency is scheduled for December 6, 2025.

This follows the death of Mr Diagelo Madima, who was councilor for Moreomaoto under the Botswana Democratic Party . He passed away on 22 September 22, 2025.

Contenders for the now vacant council seat are, Ms Gaolethoo Mabego of the Botswana Democratic Party, Mr Mpaphi Dikaelo of the Umbrella for Democratic Change, and Mr Odirile Basiame under the Botswana Congress Party, while Mr Poloko Gaolebalwe and Mr Sonda Seepetswe will contest as independent candidates.

In the last general elections for the ward, BDP emerged victorious and garnered 217 votes, followed by UDC with 185, while BCP got 50 votes.

Polling stations for the upcoming by-election will be Moreomaoto Primary School and Menoakwena Mobile Stop.

Returning Officer Mr Ewetse Selelo, who is acting district commissioner for Boteti, said in an interview that preparations for the by-election were in full swing and without qualms.

Mr Selelo highlighted that the Independent Electoral Commission office would be issuing duplicate voter’s registration cards to voters who may have lost or damaged their cards from December 2 to December 5.

December 4, the Returning Officer said, would be trainingfor polling staff.

He said a total of 545 people have registered to vote. ENDS
