Consultation ongoing over borehole allocation
21 Nov 2025
The government is currently engaged in consultation and technical assessments before making a final decision on reducing the minimum distance for borehole allocation in communal areas from six to four kilometres in communal areas.
Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, said the assessments were being undertaken in collaboration with the ministries of environment and tourism, minerals and energy and water and human settlements, as well as development partners, to ensure that among other things, groundwater resources, environmental sustainability, and land use planning were being fully addressed.
Furthermore, Dr Dikoloti highlighted that ensuring water development for the agricultural sector was a priority currently being integrated into the ongoing review of the National Agricultural Policy and the country’s envisaged livestock development programmes.
Tswapong South MP, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang had sought an update on the implementation of a parliamentary motion that called on the government to reduce the distance between boreholes from six to four kilometres in communal areas. ENDS
