Atsile receives rousing welcome

21 Nov 2025

Botswana on Wednesday welcomed home Atsile Badubi, newly crowned Mini Miss Icon International 2025, following her historic win in Cambodia this past Sunday.

The eight-year-old has become the first representative from Botswana to claim the global title since the pageant adopted its international format.

Atsile’s triumph marks a significant milestone for Botswana’s pageantry industry, breaking a long-standing pattern in which local contestants frequently secured first runner-up positions on the world stage. For the young queen, the victory represents more than a crown,it is a platform to motivate others.

“Pageantry is not just about being a pretty face. Being intelligent and hardworking is also very important to have a successful reign,” she said.

She added that she hoped to inspire girls across Botswana to ‘dream limitlessly’ throughout her tenure. She shared that she looked up to international model and beauty queen, Lesego Chombo.

“I aspire to be like Lesego Chombo. I think she is not only beautiful, but a hardworking person too,” she said.

The director of Tshepo Montwedi-Tlhapi, Miss Teen Universe Botswana, who also managed several related pageants, expressed immense pride in Atsile’s accomplishment. She highlighted the significance of securing a global title after years of near victories.

“She has truly made us proud,” Montwedi-Tlhapi said, praising Atsile for her confidence and her ability to connect with fellow contestants from different countries.

She added that Atsile’s ability to relate well with people from diverse backgrounds would serve her well as she undertook her duties as Mini Miss Icon International Ambassador.

Atsile arrived back home with Lyn-Rose Masame, a third runner-up in the Miss Preteen Icon International category, and Fidelmah Mfho, the current Little Miss Icon Botswana. ENDS
