Ntungamili for the semi-final
21 Nov 2025
Botswana tennis player Ntungamili Raguin is the only Motswana who has proceeded to the ITF J60 semifinal, after defeating Namibian Israel Dowie 6-2, 6-2 in the ongoing tournament played at the National Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Israel, who has been terrorising Batswana players, met his match in Ntugamili who prevailed, winning the first set with 5-0. Attempts by Dowie to fight back and try to push the match to go to a deciding set were met with Ntunga's resilience and top-notch form. Precise serves clearly boosted Ntungamili's confidence.
Physiologically, he reached his flow state and displayed a positive mental reaction even after losing points, which left his level of confidence at its peak.
On the other hand, Israel’s first serves were low, and he was also served with caution, avoiding making mistakes, while the high-flying Ntunga managed to deal with every threat that came his way.
Ntunga said in an interview that he was happy with his performance, adding that his opponent gave him a very good match. He said the game was tougher than the score, given that Israel was a tough opponent.
His coach, Killian Sinclair, said their mission of winning the J60 boys' singles and doubles on home soil remains alive. He said he had prepared well for the tournament, adding that Ntangamili started well and kept the momentum in the second set.
Sinclair said they had a well-thought-out game plan for their opponent, which, he said, Ntungamili executed very well. Ntugamili will tomorrow face his double partner, Yanael Beranger from France. ENDS
