Five Vie For Kgalagadi South Constituency

05 Nov 2025

The race for the Kgalagadi South parliamentary seat is officially underway, with five candidates successfully registering and confirming their participation in the upcoming by-election to be held on November 15.

The five aspirants would contest the seat left vacant following the passing on of the Member of Parliament Dr Micus Chimbombi.

According to Tsabong District Commissioner, Mr Levis Thupa, the candidates have met all the necessary requirements, qualifying them to vie for the parliamentary position.

The by-election would see a spirited battle amongst three political party representatives and one independent candidate.

These are Mr Tshephang Brooks representing Botswana Congress Party(BCP), Ms Dianna Kaartzee for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Mr Phenyo Sedimonyane for Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF), Mr Tokyo Modise for Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), and Mr Kealeboga Kapeko as an Independent Candidate

Notably, Ms Dianna Kaartzee of the BDP stands as the sole woman among the confirmed candidates.

The November 15 poll is viewed as a crucial political barometer, giving the people of Kgalagadi South the opportunity to elect their new representative in Parliament.

Candidates are expected to focus their campaigns on addressing key regional issues, including infrastructure, employment and the challenges unique to the vast, semi-arid constituency.

As the official campaign period begins, constituents are urged to exercise their democratic right and turn up in numbers on the election day to choose the leader they believe would best serve their interests. ENDS
