Township Rollers faced their first defeat of the 2025/26 FNB Premiership season on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Mochudi Centre Chiefs at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.
Both teams started strong, eager to get ahead early. However, Rollers made a costly defensive mistake in the 17th minute, allowing Ronald Fortune to put Chiefs on the board with a 1-0 lead. Chiefs continued to threaten on the counterattack, and against the run of play, Hendrick Moyo extended their lead to 2-0.
Towards the end of the first half, Rollers picked up their game, increasing the pressure and forcing the Chiefs keeper to make several saves.
This momentum carried into the second half, where Rollers were awarded a penalty after another defensive slip. Marcel Papama stepped up and converted it calmly in the 54th minute, bringing the score to 2-1.
Rollers kept pushing for an equaliser, but Chiefs and their goalie, Keoagile Kgosipula, made some crucial stops to maintain their lead. Despite a spirited effort and strong support from the fans at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, the final score stayed 2-1 in favour of Chiefs.
After the match, Chiefs coach Pontsho Moloi praised his team’s tactical discipline.
“We played well without the ball and managed our rotations when we had possession. I’m really pleased with how they performed and the result,” he said.
On the other hand, Rollers coach Srojan Zivojnov noted the defensive errors but highlighted his players’ determination.
“Two mistakes cost us the goals, but the players dominated and controlled much of the game. I commend them for their effort,” he stated.
This thrilling encounter saw a good turn-out of fans and supporters, who got treated to beautiful moments of local football. ENDS
