Lobatse Sports and Arts Awards set for December
26 Oct 2025
Some residents of Lobatse have developed an initiative to hold awards ceremony called Lobatse Sports and Arts Awards, aimed to promote excellence in sport and arts and to encourage broader community engagement in growing sport and arts in the town.
The awards ceremony was officially launched on Thursday, with the inaugural edition billed for December 13, 2025.
Officially launching the event, Lobatse mayor Aron Ganakgomo described the initiative as a noble one which the district leadership was committed to supporting and to work collectively with the organisers to ensure its success.
Ganakgomo said the awards would help to recognise talented athletes and artists whose dedication, sacrifice, and hard work often went unnoticed, especially when for those who had not reached the national level.
The awards, he noted would, serve a dual purpose of recognising and rewarding outstanding performers while also motivating upcoming talent in Lobatse and surrounding areas.
The mayor therefore encouraged all stakeholders to support the events and help it to thrive, rallying the business community to come on board and assist with sponsorships and partnerships. He said by supporting the event, they would be investing in youth, creatives and sports people.
Ganakgomo underscored that Lobatse Sports and Arts Awards could help to brand the town as a prime destination for hosting sports, cultural and entertainment events.
One of the awards organisers, Dr Keone Kgorotlhe pointed that the initiative sought to promote sporting and arts excellence as well as to encourage broader community engagement in local sports and arts, by recognising and rewarding talent.
He further said it would foster motivation, discipline, and healthy competition among athletes at all levels, in schools and out of school athletes.
Dr Kgorotlhe also noted that the awards aimed to celebrate and reward outstanding achievements of sports personalities and groups in Lobatse. He said the participants must be Lobatse natives living in the town and with a traceable record of impact in sports or arts.
Botswana Telecommunication Cooperation (BTC) Lobatse store supervisor, Keletso Norwebb hailed the upcoming awards for a commitment to nurture talent, foster creativity and build a legacy of excellence. ENDS
