Francistown army raises funds
16 Feb 2014
The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) 2nd Infantry Brigade held a Valentine’s Day dinner in Francistown to raise funds for the 2nd Military Garrison day care centre.
In an interview, the project fundraiser, Lieutenant Gabaiphiwe Sedimo said the day care centre did not match the standards of other centres in the city and therefore needed close to P30 000 for expansion works.
Lt Sedimo said, looking at the demand, the centre, which had been operational since 2010, needed three more classrooms and other facilities such as a swimming pool.
She explained that there were only two classrooms that accommodated 60 children and as a result some were forced to enroll elsewhere. She said although there was a swimming pool in the camp, it did not cater for children aged between two and six years because of its depth.
Lt Sedimo said the dinner, which was themed ‘Motswana Woman beyond 2016’, was the beginning of other events aimed at raising funds towards the development of the day care centre. She said the centre does not only enroll children from the BDF camps but also caters for children from neighbouring areas such as Donga. Ends
