SAA launches Wellness Day
16 Feb 2014
Employees of the Serowe Administrative Authoriy (SAA) have been advised to take advantage of the Wellness Day by testing for chronic diseases such as high blood, cancer and not just for HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at the launch of SAA Wellness Day in Serowe on February 14, Ms Rosemary Mbaiwa, who is Debswana Orapa/letlhakane and Damtshaa mines wellness coordinator, said it was important for one to know their health status.
Physical and psychological aspects like problems at home, troubled mind due to things like financial problems and stress could affected one’s performance at work, just like any other disease, Ms Mbaiwa cautioned.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of a disease or infirmity,” she explained, adding that the initiative was in line with the international best practices and promoted Vision 2016’s pillar of a prosperous and productive nation .
She reiterated the fact that the launch was just the beginning of a long journey and employees should take advantage of it by supporting each other so that it became a success.
Outlining the objectives of the day, the chairperson of SAA Wellness committee, Ms Matildah Mazudonga underscored the need for wellness in the workplace, saying for one to be productive at the workplace one had to be fit.
Ms Mazudonga encouraged those in attendance to always lead a healthy life by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and always seeking help from professional councilors whenever they encountered problems.
She said typical problems such as divorce negatively affected the individual, which in turn affected productivity at the work place.
Mr Richard Ngavulan, of men sector Serowe, encouraged men to circumcise, saying women needed to encourage their men to circumcise and do other health routine tests. Ends
