The Global Expo Botswana has been hailed as an economic game changer created to showcase Botswana’s most investment ready opportunities while encouraging direct and practical engagement between government, investors and the private sector.
Speaking at the recent Pula investment conference, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima indicated that the expo was a living testament to the country’s renewed national ambition and a pivotal platform for forging partnerships to power the future.
Minister Ntsima thus highlighted that the global expo, was more than just an exhibition, but rather a renewed platform that reflected the collective ambition to unlock Botswana’s potential explaining it as a stage where local enterprises, regional players and international companies come together with a shared vision of partnership and growth.
“It is also an opportunity to leverage the power of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA) to showcase the strength of our creative sector and to shape the future of trade and investment both within Botswana and across the continent,” he said.
This year’s conference, he said came at a defining moment in Botswana’s economic journey, as the country intensifies its focus on industralisation, energy transition, food security and value added production.
He said it came at a defining economic moment, at the heart of the implementation of the bold Botswana Economic Transformation Plan, which is premised on the ruling party manifesto.
“This is a translation of the promise we made to our people on economic dignity, sustainability of jobs and future where every Motswana is an active participant on the country’s economic prosperity,” Minister Ntsima said.
Minister Ntsima noted that government was focused on key economic sectors to implement both policies and reforms as well as fostering a culture of rapid, results driven execution.
Thus emphasising government commitment to deliver on the promise of a high income, digitally enabled, export driven private sector lead economy.
“We are determined to move beyond resource based economy, to a future driven by knowledge, innovation, value addition and inclusive growth,” he said.
Therefore he made a clarion call on Botswana’s readiness for transformative business as it offered a secure and fertile environment for long term investment anchored by stronger framework and micro economic stability.
“Strategically located as a gateway to Southern Africa, Botswana boost of excess to over 1.3 billion consumers through SACU,SADC and the AfCFTA ,” he said .
The expo, thus said provided not just a national or regional marketplace, but a gateway into Africa’s emerging single market. ENDS
