The City of Francistown mayor will, on October 25, host a charity walk as part of efforts aimed at significantly improving public health, enhancing human dignity and promoting both social and economic development for residents.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the city mayor, Mr Gaone Majere said proceeds from the initiative would benefit the less privileged in Francistown by funding the construction of waterborne toilet systems in the city.
Mr Majere explained that providing such essential facilities was a direct way to promote good hygiene and empower individuals within Francistown’s three constituencies.
He indicated that preparations for the event, which promised to be a fun-filled day of walking, networking and community building, were progressing well.
He said the walk, which was held annually and organised by the City of Francistown Council, was expected to attract 3 000 participants and would feature various categories including 5km, 10km and 21km.
He added that all routes were designed to pass through Francistown’s heritage sites, including Nyangabgwe Hill and Ntshe River.
The event would be held under the theme: Walk for Humanity, Know Your City, thus residents and visitors are encouraged to reconnect with the country’s second city while fostering a sense of unity and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Furthermore, the mayor confirmed that several partners, among others Thapama Hotel, FCTVE, The Voice, Petrol Hyper and Jacaranda School, had come on board to ensure the success of the day through pledges. The day’s activities would also include a Family Fun Day, followed by an After Party hosted at Cresta Thapama, where different artistes are scheduled to perform. ENDS
