Police officers seek strength through prayer

06 Oct 2025

Police officers could use prayers from the nation to uplift them spiritually.

Speaking during the launch of the Botswana police church service held in Gaborone on Sunday, Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Pastor Dr Johannes Kgwarapi emphasised the importance of prayer in restoring hope, healing the nation’s wounds and reinforcing moral values.

He urged officers to remain grounded in their faith and dependent on God as they carried out their duties.

“The challenges you face in your line of duty require you to be even closer to God. While we sleep at night, you are forced to stay alert and protect the nation, for that reason, it is important for us to watch over you in prayer,” said Pastor Kgwarapi.

Pastor Kgwarapi highlighted the emotional and physical toll policing could take, noting that officers were often exposed to traumatic incidents and high-pressure situations that affected their well-being.

He stressed that spiritual strength and public support were essential in helping law enforcement officers carry out their responsibilities with integrity, resilience and compassion.

Pastor Kgwarapi also urged other government departments to adopt a culture of prayer and spiritual reflection in their daily work.

“If we all seek God’s guidance, we will serve the nation more diligently and in accordance with our calling,” he said and encouraged the public to continue supporting the police not only through appreciation but also through ongoing intercession.

“Let us never grow tired of praying for those who protect us. When the church, government, and the people walk in step with God, no challenge is too great,” said Pastor Kgwarapi.

He further called for the institutionalisation of prayer in schools, public service, and traditional leadership structures, saying that a nation rooted in prayer is a nation grounded in peace.

The Botswana police church service is aimed at offering spiritual encouragement and moral support to law enforcement officers while recognising the immense sacrifices they make to maintain peace and order across the country.

It brought together members of the Botswana Police Service, religious leaders, government officials and members of the public in a show of unity, gratitude and prayerful support. BOPA
