President Advocate Duma Boko has encouraged Batswana to embrace unity and cooperation in order to safeguard and foster peace and harmony.
In his national address to mark Botswana’s 59th anniversary of Independence on Tuesday, the President further called on Batswana to be patriotic, reflective and forward-looking.
“This is a day of reflection, as we remember those who came before us and how impactful their contributions were,” he said.
President Boko said for the first time in the country’s history, celebrations were held under a government led by the Umbrella for Democratic Change, a coalition of political parties working together to better Botswana after 58 years of single party dominance.
“It is through togetherness that we will overcome any and all issues facing our country, large or small. It is through togetherness that the African continent will heal and grow,” he said.
The President also lauded a quartet of athletes for clinching a Gold medal, making Botswana the first African nation to win the men’s title in the 4x400 metres relay at the World Athletics Championships. ENDS
