Dithubaruba Festival set for Ntsweng tomorrow

05 Sep 2025

The historic Ntsweng Heritage Site in Molepolole will come to live on September 6 when the annual Dithubaruba Cultural Festival takes centre stage.

Widely regarded as Botswana’s flagship heritage celebration, the festival pays tribute to the rich cultural legacy of Bakwena and the broader Kweneng District. Since its inception in 2007, Dithubaruba has grown into a national platform for celebrating and preserving Botswana’s diverse cultural heritage with particular emphasis on the traditions of the Kweneng people.

The event also envisions positioning cultural tourism as a sustainable driver for community development. This year’s edition will run under the theme: Re Naya Ngwao Botshelo: Heritage in Motion, a reflection of the festival’s commitment to intergenerational cultural transmission, sustainable development, and nation building through the lens of heritage.

The event coordinator, Power Kawina said the programme would feature a vibrant mix of traditional music and dance, indigenous cuisine, storytelling, and cultural exhibitions.

Revellers from Molepolole and across the country are expected to throng the Ntsweng Heritage Site popularly known as Ga-Mmakgosi, for what promises to be a colourful showcase of Setswana culture and identity.

Environment and Tourism Minister, Wynter Mmolotsi will officially open the festival and his presence underscores the national importance of the occasion and the need for heritage- sensitive site management. ENDS
