Sankoyo Bush Bucks Football Club has added six new players to its squad in preparation for the upcoming 2025/2026 season of the First Division North league which will commence soon.
The club’s interim chairman, Anderson Thiya confirmed in an interview that they had secured quality players among them a Zimbabwean sensational striker Morris Ruzivo who is expected to guide the boys.
The other additions he said, were Tiresome Ratana, Ntota Basinye, Gosego Saudu, Oganne Kedumetse and Tiroyaone Mokgweetsi. Thiya acknowledged that the return of Ruzivo to his former club was a big achievement as he brought a wealth of experience and skills to the squad.
Ruzivo played for several big clubs including Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Jwaneng Galaxy and Security Systems, where he showcased his great talent throughout his career.
“We have built a strong squad ready to compete for the league championship and we believe that beefing it up with experienced players will add more value and motivate other players,” he added.
Thiya added that Sankoyo Bush Bucks’ ultimate goal was to return to the premier league.
He noted that though they had lost their number one goalkeeper Onalethata Moeletsi at the end of last season, they had since signed two goalkeepers, one of whom was from Nico United.
He said they had recruited some members from the supporters’ club to beef up the executive committee following the resignations of the chairman, Itumeleng Kelebetseng and his vice Sekai Morotsi, team manager Agnes Kelapile and public relations officer Thato Molosi.
With regard to securing sponsorship, Thiya pointed out that the club still faced challenges to attract sponsors noting that they were still reliant on the financial assistance from donors such as Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust.
Appealing to potential sponsors to come on board to rescue the team, he said the trust provided essential resources like transportation but could not cover all operational costs.
Thiya said they needed financial support in order to be able to pay rentals and provide for the welfare of players.
Although he appreciated support from Wilderness Safari Company, he stated that the support from the company was not adequate to cover all the costs.
The chairman appreciated the continued support from the company saying it had been instrumental in sustaining the club.
He said the club’s three-year sponsorship worth P700 000 from the safari company would be coming to an end this season.
“Our deal comes to an end this season and we intend to engage Wilderness management on the matter because our goal is to improve team performance,” he added, citing that they also intended to work closely with the community to make the team more attractive to corporate sponsors. He said management had also approached Maun North MP, Dumelang Saleshando to become the club’s patron. ENDS
