Batswana honour Molemogi artistic legacy
03 Sep 2025
Family, friends, colleagues and fans of the late Atasaone Molemogi, affectionately known as A.T.I, gathered at UB Indoor Sports Arena to celebrate and bid farewell to the exceptionally talented artist who died on Sunday.
The memorial service for the fallen music star served as a powerful symbol of the unconditional love he so selflessly expressed in his hit song Lephoi, with countless fans filling the UB Indoor Arena to capacity, while many more gathered outside.
Dignitaries such as Minister of Health, Dr Steven Modise, Minister for International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Lesego Chombo, former Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Tumiso Rakgare and Speaker the National Assembly Dithapelo Keorapetse, were in attendance.
Gospel industry legends led the service, with Phempheretlhe Pheto calling upon divine guidance for a smooth ceremony while Prophet Joel Keitumele delivered a befitting sermon honouring Molemogi’s creative spirit.
The memorial service organisers ensured that his spirit was felt and alive as they incorporated his most loved hit songs as interlude between speeches. It was a fitting tribute to a legend, with a selected collaborative songs performed by those he worked with in various songs from his impressive catalogue.
Dato Seiko also paid a moving tribute to Molemogi as she soulfully performed his Poelo Morago track, whilst Mpho Sebina also calmed sorrow with her soulful Chiwele rendition. The memorial wrapped up the perfect way of celebrating not only A.T.I the artist, but also a fashionista and trendsetter in the music space.
His fans came in clad in true A.T.I fashion flair, with ripped t-shirts, skinny jeans, and symbolic pieces such as backward bandanas which Molemogi used to wear in various styles and colours. Some came in sharp suiting for formal wear, honouring his well-rounded wardrobe that was both influential and inspiring to them.
It would not have been a proper send-off from his fans without a tribute to his signature black teardrop. Among those who honoured it were Andrew Maclauds with a white teardrop, songtress Mpho Sebina and few others. Molemogi aka Lekhete le le tona tona will be laid to rest on Saturday in Lerala. ENDS
