Lehoko Road graded quartely
16 Feb 2014
The gravelling of a road from Lehoko through Tsonyane and Seherelela planned to be undertaken once in three months is usually hampered by breakdown of graders.
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said when answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile in Parliament on February 13.
However, the minister said the road was last graded during the second quarter (July 6, 7 and 8, 2013) and was planned to be graded during the fourth quarter (March 17, 18 and 19, 2014).
Mr Molefhi said activities that characterised maintenance works included gravel roads, dry grading, opening of miter drains, culvert cleaning and sand cushioning.
On paved roads, maintenance works covered pothole patching, litter picking, repair of signs, fence repair, maintenance of culverts, grass cutting and bush clearing, he said. He further said the road has not been included for outsourcing during the financial year 2014/ 2015 due to shortage of funds and has been planned to be graded in house.
MP Kesupile had wanted the minister to state how often in a year is maintenance done on the gravel road from Lehoko through Tsonyane and Seherelela to Sesung in the Southern district. The minister was also asked to state activities that characterise maintenance work and to say if he would consider a short term maintenance contract for regular leveling and clearing of rocks. Ends
