Andries new Miss Universe Botswana

01 Sep 2025

Lilian Andries (30) of Ramotswa was over the weekend crowned Miss Universe Botswana 2025.

Her first princess is Dabilo Moses of Maitengwe while Wangu Modise of Sebina settled for second princess.  The grand finale, held at Adansonia Hotel in Francistown August 30, witnessed Andries emerging to the top, to represent Botswana at the upcoming Miss Universe event in Thailand on November 25.

At the start of the competition, the audience buzzed with anticipation, especially for Moses, who had attracted the masses throughout the competition stages. With elegance and poise, Moses captivated the judges and onlookers, stealing praises during her stunning catwalks and vibrant performances.

However, it was during the pivotal question-and-answer segment that fate took a dramatic shift. The final question posed to the top three contestants, challenged them to propose innovative strategies for Botswana to diversify its economy beyond its long reliance on diamonds.

In a moment that would seal her victory, Andries delivered a compelling and articulate response that resonated deeply with the judges. Her eloquence and vision outshone Moses, who struggled to convey her thoughts under the pressure, ultimately missing the crown.

While Moses had dazzled throughout the event, making waves from the initial top ten through to the final three, it was Andries’s moment of clarity amidst the chaos that secured her victory. Emmanuel Kayenda, one of the judges, later expressed the sentiment echoed by many, noting that while every contestant was remarkable, they were in search of a strong ambassador who could represent Botswana’s ideals and aspirations.

Andries’s journey to the crown was not solely defined by the final question. She had already claimed her place among the top five, alongside the talented Christina Vanstaden, Leungo Ntlhayakgosi, Moses, and Modise. Although Modise secured the evening gown title, the best swimwear accolade went to Moses, showcasing the depth of talent present at the competition. In a post-pageant interview, Andries expressed her excitement and dedication as she prepares for the Miss Universe competition. She emphasised the belief that, with the unwavering support of Batswana, she is poised to bring the crown back to Botswana, reminiscent of Mpule Kwelagobe's historic win in 1999. ENDS
