Gaborone United Ladies have marched into their second final of the CAF Women's Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers after securing a hard fought 3-1 victory over Mozambiquan side Costa do Sol.
The Red Roses pilled pressure early on at the UJ AW Muller Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, with Lesego Radiakanyo testing goalkeeper Neima Nhamire with a long range shot in the third minute.
Despite their early dominance of possession, the Red Roses survived a scare when Lucia Leila was denied by the post in the sixth minute after turning inside the penalty area.
A combination of good forward passes saw Radiakanyo release Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse and the nippy striker guided the ball past goalkeeper Nhamire to give the Red Roses a 15th minute lead.
Jessica Maponga doubled the lead with a spectacular volley from the edge of the box after being released by Goitsemang Tlamma in the 43rd minute.
However, Samira Latifo pulled one back for Costa do Sol with a brilliant effort from the edge of the box which sailed over Pheresi and into the top corner in the 45th minute.
The two teams continued battling each other in the second half, but couldn't create clear cut chances.
As the match wore on, Costa do Sol seemed to establish a foothold on proceedings and were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute after the referee ruled that Amogelang Sebotho had fouled Aurora Ngale inside the danger zone.
However, the decision was overturned after a lengthy check by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and the Red Roses slender lead remained intact.
The scare seemed to awaken the Red Roses from their slumber as they increased their lead in the 88th minute with a beautiful goal by Ontlametse. The striker chested down an inch perfect pass from Keitumetse Dithebe inside the 18-yards area and calmly fired a half volley past the goalkeeper to score her seventh goal of the tournament.
The Red Roses will meet Zesco Ndola Girls in the final at 3pm on Sunday after the Zambian side shocked Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 2-1 in a closely contested second semifinal. ENDS
