Masisi explains DailyNews distribution

08 Feb 2013

The DailyNews, as a principal means of government communication, is distributed in a manner designed to assure reliable and consistent delivery to villages, towns and settlements across the country.

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi informed Parliament that it was inadvisable to leave the distribution of the DailyNews to a philanthropic circulation strategy via corporate social responsibility policies of private public transporters.

The minister said consequently, no private transporters had been enlisted for provision of the service anywhere in the country.

Mr Masisi indicated that during the course of 2012, his ministry successfully piloted the distribution of DailyNews to the remote settlements around Hukuntsi through the district commissioner’s office.

He said they were now engaging other district administrations across the country to do the same.

MP for Shoshong, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele had asked the minister whether given the challenges his ministry faced in the distribution of the DailyNews to rural areas due to transport and other logistical challenges, will he consider enlisting the private sector in assisting them as part of their corporate social responsibility.

He asked the minister to state the number of private sector bodies which the ministry had enlisted both at national level and in the Shoshong constituency in the provision of services and if such strategy was already in place. ENDS
