Segolame Boy scored on debut as Sua Flamingoes registered a 2-0 victory over Black Lions in their opening match of the 2025/26 FNB Premiership campaign at Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng this afternoon.
Bafana Ba Letswai dominated the first half and took an early lead through Botshelo Mafoko in the ninth minute.
Lions squandered a chance for an equaliser when midfielder Collen Mateu missed a golden opportunity midway through the first half.
The two teams went to the halftime break with Flamingoes holding a narrow lead, but they continued with their dominance of the match in the second half.
Goalkeeper Maikano Tladinyana came to Lions rescue, saving a well taken free-kick from Boy in the 60th minute.
The star midfielder, making his first league appearance in Flamingoes colours after his high profile move from Township Rollers, was however not to be denied as he capitalised on a defensive error and doubled his side's lead in the 74th minute.
The victory marked a positive start to the campaign for coach Nikola Kavazovic's men, who would be looking to go one better than their third place finish last season and mount a strong challenge for the league title.
Ditau Dia Rora on the other hand suffered defeat in their maiden match in the FNB Premiership after buying the status of VTM FC.
In another FNB Premiership encounter played this afternoon, Nico United defeated Extension Gunners 2-1 at Sam Sono Stadium in Selebi Phikwe.
Moabi Phuthego put Majombolo in the lead in the 12th minute, but Senatla Molefhe levelled matters in the 41st minute. Substitute striker Pako Gaofose netted the winner in the 87th minute to give coach Reuben Njavera-Chikoti a winning in charge of Nico.
Last night, Mochudi Centre Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by BDF XI at the National Stadium in Gaborone. ENDS
