Road project progress satisfactory

The works completed on the district’s road infrastructure project have been reported as satisfactory by Good Hope/Mmathethe  council chairperson, Mr Daniel Nkwane.

Addressing the full council session on Monday, Mr Nkwane expressed optimism about the impact of ongoing road projects across the district. 

He said that once the projects were completed, the district’s landscape would be transformed.

Mr Nkwane also highlighted the progress of the Output Performance and Reward Contract (OPRC) Package 2 Lot 1, awarded to Steelbase (PTY) LTD at a cost of approximately P456,654,000. 

He noted that the project was currently on schedule, with overall progress at 92 per cent.

He said that amongst outstanding works were construction of failed sections at Leporung and Dikhukhung, drainage works at Tshidilamolomo and building of Mabule/Banyana farms culvert, while the Good Hope-Kgoro-Gathwane Road was complete and opened to traffic.

The chairperson also said that OPRC package 2 lot 2 awarded to Tau grading and building construction at the sum of P653, 650,481.10 and commenced on April 8  2024 was currently behind schedule at 41 per cent compared to the envisaged 49 per cent. It is scheduled to run over 36 months.

Mr Nkwane said construction of lot 2 which covered over 57.7 kilometers of road across various villages in the district, with the amount of work already done, the contractor would deliver the project on time and on budget.

Mr Nkwane pointed out that works on Malokaganyane-Sheepfarm Road had already started while Gamajaalela road was almost finished with a substantial section already open to the public.

On other projects, he said construction of Metlojane, Hebron, Borobadilepe and Mokatako road was yet to commence, adding that the contractor was currently constructing detour road while awaiting the approval of the impact assessment for the proposed burrow pits. ENDS
